Maybe you didn&#8217;t floss as often or had some bad dental habits you want to break. Well, there&#8217;s no time like 2026 to take steps to get the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weldondentistry.com\/preventive-dentistry.html\">healthier smile<\/a> you deserve. Here are five simple New Year\u2019s resolutions that you should stick to when welcoming this new beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1.) &nbsp;Brush for Two Full Minutes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the end of the day, you may want nothing more than to just head to bed. You might brush your teeth real quick, but you should make sure you do it for the proper amount of time. Doing it for just a minute can clean only about 27% of your smile. You should try your best to do this habit for two full minutes, which helps you bring that score up to 41%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2.) &nbsp;Floss Once a Day<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By scrubbing your tongue and gums as well, you clean only about 60% of your mouth. The rest can be done by flossing. Using dental thread to get between your teeth and underneath your gumline can get rid of debris and bacteria your toothbrush can&#8217;t reach. It&#8217;s best to do this once a day, so if you have trouble remembering, set a reminder or put a note on your mirror.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3.) &nbsp;Quit Using Tobacco<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you chew or smoke tobacco, then you may be putting your oral health at risk. This habit makes you more prone to gum disease, which can cause serious complications. In its early stages, you may have noticeable redness, inflammation, or bleeding when brushing and flossing. When this condition is left untreated, it can progress into more advanced stages, causing your gumline to recede or you to lose teeth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4.) &nbsp;Follow a Healthy Diet<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Eating healthy is something that many people have on their list anyway, but having a balanced diet can support your oral health in several ways. By getting enough nutrients, you can boost your immune system&#8217;s response to infection and inflammation in your mouth. Look for foods that are rich in vitamins A, C, D, phosphorus, and calcium to keep your teeth and gums strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5.) &nbsp;Visit Your Dentist Consistently<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last but not least, you should visit your dentist regularly. They have special instruments to remove hardened plaque and bacteria from your smile while also keeping an eye out for oral health issues.
